February 1, 1958 Geoff Cross and Chuck Brown formed Brown and Cross Trucking. The company started with two trucks, Geoff driving one, hauling rock and sand. By 1966 Geoff Cross had become the sole owner of the company now known as Bulk Transportation.
The property that serves as the Bulk Transportation corporate office was purchased and developed in 1970. Company acquisitions followed shortly after and Bulk Transportation expanded through long standing relationships with core customers into new geographical markets.
In 1978 Bulk Transportation opened its first satellite terminal operation in Stockton CA. Since that time Bulk has opened additional terminals in Buckeye, AZ, Safford, AZ, Portland, OR, Las Vegas, NV, Adelanto, CA, and Channelview TX. In 1980 Bulk Transportation opened its first rail transload facility in Stockton, CA. Bulk Transportation now has 3 rail to truck transfer facilities located in Buckeye, AZ, Portland, OR, and Las Vegas, NV.
In the mid 1990's Geoff Cross entered retirement and appointed his son Gary Cross as his successor. Gary had grown up in the business and had held positions ranging from a Diesel Mechanic, Professional Truck Driver, Dispatcher, Terminal Manager, Operations Manager, General Manager, Chief Financial Officer , and the President and CEO of Bulk Transportation.
Under Gary Cross' leadership Bulk Transportation continued its rapid growth in the liquid chemical market and aggressively pursued additional intermodal business and facilities. Bulk Transportation diversified its operations further by investing in chassis equipment to successfully gain market share in the domestic and international transportation of ISO tank containers.
Gary Cross fell ill in the summer of 2012 and passed away suddenly. Geoff Cross returned to oversee the affairs of Bulk Transportation shortly after the sudden loss of Gary. Geoff Cross has since resumed his retirement, but continues to work with Bulk Transportation and his other interests.
